In the latest Pokemon Presents broadcast, which showcased Pokemon Legends: Z-A, an interesting discovery about Chikorita has caught the attention of fans. In this upcoming game, Chikorita can learn Disarming Voice, a Fairy-type move that is otherwise unavailable to it in other Pokemon games thus far.
Chikorita, the adorable Leaf Pokemon, made its debut in Pokemon Gold and Silver, standing alongside its starter companions, Cyndaquil and Totodile, in the Johto region. This Grass-type starter is recognized by fans for its green body and prominent leaf atop its head, which it uses to unleash attacks like Razor Leaf. As it levels up, Chikorita evolves into Bayleef and eventually Meganium, gaining access to a suite of more potent Grass-type moves. If you’re playing Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you can capture Chikorita by upgrading the Terarium’s Coastal Biome and exploring the grassy shoreline areas.
When it was confirmed that Chikorita would join Tepig and Totodile as starters in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, trainers expressed enthusiasm about Chikorita’s return to the franchise. Chikorita’s ability to use Disarming Voice, alongside moves like Leafage, Leech Seed, and Razor Leaf, caused quite a stir on social media. Notably, Pokemon content creator HDvee highlighted this anomaly. Given the reintroduction of Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, fans, including HDvee, are speculating that Meganium might receive a Grass and Fairy-type Mega Evolution.
Even though the trailer for Pokemon Legends: Z-A didn’t introduce any new Mega forms, it did confirm the return of classics like Charizard, Lucario, and Ampharos. Currently, Chikorita and its evolutionary line remain pure Grass-type, focusing on defense and team support with moves like Reflect and Light Screen. However, Chikorita’s lower stats and predictable abilities often leave it considered one of the weaker starters. Should a Mega Meganium embrace the Fairy-type, it would share attributes with popular species such as Whimsicott, Tapu Bulu, and Shiinotic.
As for the game’s release, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is set to arrive in late 2025. Meanwhile, The Pokemon Company plans to roll out updates and content for other favorites like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Pokemon Unite throughout the upcoming months. Fans are eagerly waiting for more news on Pokemon Legends: Z-A, so it’s just a matter of time before new updates surface.
