It looks like we’re in for a bit of a surprise addition to the upcoming Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, as none other than Bam Margera is set to make an appearance after all. This unexpected twist comes courtesy of Tony Hawk himself, who reportedly insisted on Margera’s inclusion despite initial plans to leave him out. This development was shared during a popular skateboarding podcast, shaking up what we thought we knew about the game’s roster.
Fans of the series are eagerly awaiting the July 11 release of the combined remake of Pro Skater 3 and 4, crafted by developer Iron Galaxy. After the success of the remastered Pro Skater 1 + 2 in 2020, expectations are high. While the game was thought to be in its final stages, the last-minute addition of Margera means developers might need to head back to the drawing board slightly.
A few weeks ago, rumors circulated that Margera wouldn’t be part of the new game, despite being a staple character in the original titles. Known for his skateboarding prowess and infamous antics on MTV’s Jackass and Viva La Bam, his exclusion was initially thought to be due to a series of personal controversies that have followed him over the years. However, VGC recently reported that a members-only episode of The Nine Club podcast featured co-host Roger Bagley, who claimed Tony Hawk personally reached out to Activision, standing firm on including Margera, regardless of any objections. Apparently, this all happened just as Iron Galaxy was wrapping up development.
In recent years, Margera’s personal life has been tumultuous, marked by legal troubles and public disputes. Notably, in 2021, he was cut from the Jackass Forever film following a restraining order filed by co-creator Jeff Tremaine, stemming from Margera’s alleged harassment of Tremaine and co-star Johnny Knoxville. In addition to a reported battle with substance abuse since 2009, there have been several legal issues, including incidents in Iceland and domestic controversies as recently as 2023.
Interestingly, Margera’s inclusion isn’t the only surprise for the game’s special edition. The Digital Deluxe Edition will see the return of some unexpected faces from the Doom universe, namely Doom Slayer and Revenant, even bringing in a nod to the popular Doom Doot meme.
Excitement is building for the game’s release this summer, and with these new developments, there’s a lot to look forward to. Whether you’re a veteran of the series or a newcomer, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 seems poised to deliver some thrilling skateboarding action sprinkled with a touch of nostalgia and celebrity drama.
