With the buzz around today’s streaming and surprise release of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake, it’s clear the nostalgia is making waves among the veteran Elder Scrolls fans here at the office. However, for those of us eagerly looking ahead, there’s a glimmer of excitement: Todd Howard has given a nod to The Elder Scrolls 6, confirming that work is indeed underway on the next chapter.
Just before revealing a treasure trove of Oblivion Remaster updates and video clips, Howard teased us with a simple, yet exhilarating mention: “Obviously we’re working on the 6th chapter here.”
It might not seem like much, but this is the most substantial update on The Elder Scrolls 6 we’ve had since March 2024 when Bethesda tantalized us by letting early builds circulate among testers. They even dropped a hint about the game being fun—something we all hope is a given!
Looking back, the prior major tidbit came from an ex-Skyrim designer in October 2023, who suggested we’d be left in the dark until about six months before the game’s release. And let’s not forget Phil Spencer’s confident but slightly tongue-in-cheek prediction made just a month earlier, estimating a five-year window before the release. Fast forward nearly two years, and the waiting game continues with little more to fuel our anticipation.
In fairness to Bethesda, they have been pretty silent on the matter for years, with a notable confirmation back in August 2023 that development was officially underway—five years after the E3 announcement. It’s hard not to wonder if perhaps they jumped the gun with that reveal.
Setting the sarcasm aside, it’s heartening to see even a flicker of progress for Elder Scrolls 6. The wait has been lengthy; I’ve journeyed from school days to adulthood, now managing bills and navigating the complexities of dating apps since its announcement. Bethesda, revered as a leading force in the RPG realm, is surely crafting something phenomenal. Could we maybe just get some concept art or a hint of something tangible soon? Remember, even Liam Neeson had more evidence of his daughter’s existence in ‘Taken’ than we have of this game’s development.
We want to hear from you—how are you feeling about the wait, and just how deep do you think my student loans will run by the time Elder Scrolls 6 hits the shelves? Share your thoughts!
