A fresh mod for Stardew Valley, named Sunberry Village, has arrived and it brings with it a brand-new town to explore, along with a plethora of enticing extras. This beloved farming simulator from 2016 has always had an active modding community that’s constantly pushing the boundaries, adding layers of depth to an already expansive game. Even as Stardew Valley approaches its decade milestone, both official updates and community-driven modifications ensure it stays firmly in the spotlight.
The modding community’s enthusiasm isn’t simply because of a lack of updates from the developers. Eric Barone, the creative force behind the game known as ConcernedApe, has kept the game refreshed, with the latest patch released in February 2025. He’s introduced new festivals, locations, and items, all while juggling the development of his next project, The Haunted Chocolatier. However, it’s not just Barone who is deeply involved in keeping Stardew Valley alive — the community is making significant contributions as well.
The Sunberry Village mod was uploaded to Nexus Mods on March 15, 2025, offering players a new area located south of Pelican Town. Crafted by a team including skellady, sophiesalacia, and The Sunberry Team, this expansion introduces more than 15 new NPCs, over 80 events, along with additional crops and items, enhancing the game’s already extensive content. It’s part of a recent wave of significant expansions, like a Baldur’s Gate-themed mod that also packed a punch with additions earlier this March.
With Sunberry Village, players can enjoy a delightful cat café, a trendy clothing store, a charming flower shop, an additional blacksmith, and an inn teeming with captivating characters, quests, and narratives. For those inclined towards action and exploration, there are new mines and creatures to challenge. And this is just the beginning — the developers have committed to releasing new characters shortly after the initial launch, with more items and areas potentially in the pipeline as this marks the first complete version of the expansion. Barone himself has mentioned the possibility of working on Stardew Valley well into the next half-century, an ambition that seems shared by the community given the dedication to crafting substantial fan updates.
As for official updates, while new content is anticipated, recent efforts have focused on ensuring the game’s performance remains smooth post the significant 1.6 update. Though Barone hasn’t announced a release date for Haunted Chocolatier, development on this new game could potentially pause further official Stardew Valley enhancements. Historically, however, managing projects hasn’t prevented him from nurturing Stardew Valley. Even if future official updates slow down, the reservoir of fan-created content ensures players won’t run out of adventures anytime soon.
