Warner Bros, the entertainment powerhouse, has reportedly decided to call off an expansion for Hogwarts Legacy.
According to Bloomberg, this expansion was in development and was meant to roll out alongside a Definitive Edition of the popular Harry Potter-themed action RPG. This special edition was supposed to introduce new storylines to fans. However, Warner Bros decided to pull the plug on the project because it didn’t have enough content to justify the price point they were considering. The development duties for this expansion were shared by Avalanche Software, the original creators of the game, and Rocksteady. Interestingly, Avalanche is said to be working on a sequel to the Harry Potter game as well.
On another note, Rocksteady recently laid off staff after announcing that they were winding down support for the 2024 title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Last year, Warner Bros admitted that its video game division was “substantially underperforming.” In that same period, the company incurred a significant financial loss, writing off $200 million related to the Suicide Squad game. Moreover, Warner Bros has recently shut down three of its studios, including Monolith. To top it off, David Haddad, a long-time leader within the company, recently announced his departure.
