Marvel’s Disney+ series often take a while to hit their stride, and “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” is no exception in its first season. The show juggled finding its own unique rhythm, and at times, it felt a bit uneven. Cameos from greater MCU figures were a treat—Daredevil’s appearance was especially anticipated and did not disappoint. However, these appearances sometimes overshadowed the opportunity to delve deeper into the series’ core supporting cast, filled with talented actors like Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, and Renée Elise Goldsberry, who delivered memorable performances despite limited focus.
Yet, as we’ve seen with other Disney+ endeavors, “She-Hulk” shone at moments, reminding us of the charm that an expanded MCU can offer. The series was a delightful mix: humorous and wise, with a cheeky feminist narrative that occasionally hit a bit too hard on the nose. It embraced a zany, meta approach, successfully capturing the essence of a genuine sitcom. Instead of skewing into surreal parody, it offered a candid look at the mundane yet extraordinary existence in a universe teeming with Avengers.
And let’s talk about the less favorable aspects, like the somewhat unsettled CGI—these are quickly forgiven because they lie at the feet of Tatiana Maslany. Her mesmerizing talent and infectious playfulness brought to life both Jennifer Walters and her green counterpart with such brilliance and ease. Bottom line, “She-Hulk” offered amusing escapades within the ever-evolving MCU landscape. [Mary Kate Carr]
