Looks like Sony’s finally taking a step to address the issues with the PS5’s Activity Cards feature, which has been in dire need of attention for quite a while. We’ve delved into this subject extensively before, pointing out how these Activity Cards lost their appeal when Sony ditched the ‘Resume Activity’ function. Although it’s unlikely that this feature will make a comeback, today’s system update for the PS5 indicates that Sony hasn’t completely dismissed the potential of Activity Cards.
February 2025’s PS5 update beta has brought some improvements to Activity Cards. The ‘Resume Activity’ was arguably the best part of these cards, and its absence left users disappointed, leading Sony to somewhat neglect the feature. Back in December, I noted how Activity Cards either failed to function or provided incorrect information.
In today’s PS5 system software update beta — which, by the way, is available only to a select group — Sony states:
They’ve made it easier to view activity details.
Now, activity details are fully displayed on the cards, but rest assured, any potential spoilers will still be hidden.
While ‘Resume Activity’ seems to be permanently retired, these updates suggest the glitchy, unreliable cards may finally operate as intended. I remain somewhat skeptical, and we’ll need to wait for player feedback from a variety of games to see the true impact. Still, a small improvement is better than none.
It’s worth mentioning that Sony had hyped up Activity Cards a lot when the PS5 was first announced, so it’s been quite surprising to see this feature languish for so long without substantial updates.
