Eager to dive into Resident Evil 6 on your modern gaming console? Maybe that’s not at the top of your wishlist, but recent developments suggest you might soon have the opportunity anyway.
Now, let’s be honest—Resident Evil 6 isn’t exactly heralded as a fan-favorite in the survival horror franchise. It’s notorious for straying too far into action territory, leaving behind the eerie survival elements that originally defined the series. Yet, no matter how far it veered off course, Resident Evil aficionados seem to have an unwavering affection for the franchise. So, there are surely some out there itching to experience it on their Xbox Series X or S. And it appears that wish might be granted. The ESRB’s website, as picked up by VGC, now shows a fresh rating for this title specifically pegged for the Xbox Series lineup.
The rating doesn’t spill too many beans, though it highlights some details justifying the Mature 17+ label (and it humorously notes the presence of the f-bomb in the game). What’s truly noteworthy is the mention of compatibility with the Xbox Series consoles. Originally a title for the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2012, it later made its way to Xbox One and PS4 in 2016, alongside Resident Evil 4 and 5, complete with some graphics tweaks and all the DLC. Plus, ports for the Switch came along in 2019. The new ESRB rating, however, doesn’t mention a PS5 version, but it’s probably reasonable to expect one. It would be strange for them to re-release 6 without giving 5 similar treatment.
Some fans might feel a tad let down, since this points to a likely remaster, rather than the coveted full remake treatment other series entries have enjoyed. But hey, that’s out of our hands! We’ll have to wait and see if Capcom has any announcements up their sleeve.
