Sony has once again rolled out a new PC release, but Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 seems to be experiencing some hiccups along the way.
Earlier this week, there was a bit of good news from Sony regarding its PC titles: the requirement to log in to a PSN account has been lifted for some of their most popular single-player games. Among these titles is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, whose PC launch occurred just a day after this announcement. While fans may appreciate bypassing the PSN login, the reviews for the game tell a different story. Out of nearly 4,500 reviews on Steam, the game currently holds a mixed rating, with a significant number of critics pointing to optimization issues. Although complaints about the game crashing are prevalent, it’s worth noting that just over half of those who reviewed it left positive feedback, indicating that experiences can vary greatly depending on individual setups.
Beyond the review landscape, player engagement numbers could certainly be stronger. According to SteamDB, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 saw a peak of 27,775 concurrent players yesterday. As of now, that number has dipped slightly below this peak. There’s still hope that it could set a new high later today, as gaming activity often surges in the evening hours. By comparison, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered achieved an impressive peak of 66,436 players, more than double that of its sequel, and ranked as the fourth most-played PlayStation game on Steam, trailing behind Helldivers 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and God of War.
Several factors could be influencing these numbers. Some players may still be unaware of the removal of the PSN requirement, a move that PlayStation has struggled with in previous releases. Additionally, the launch of PlayStation titles on PC has historically been less than smooth lately, which could be causing players to hesitate. There’s a good chance that they’ll roll out an update for Spider-Man 2 soon to address these issues.
