Well, folks, it looks like the days of not spending real money on Nintendo Switch Online might be coming to an end for some of us.
Nintendo has announced that it will be wrapping up one of its well-loved features soon after the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X. Sadly, this also means a different feature won’t be making the leap to the next-gen console, Switch 2.
In a late-night announcement, Nintendo revealed that the My Nintendo Gold program is set to be discontinued starting March 25, just a minute before 1 a.m. Eastern Time. This popular program allowed users to earn 1% back in eShop credit on physical 1st party games in their first year and a generous 5% back on digital eShop purchases. There’s one caveat though: physical games released between March 25, 2024, and the end of this program will still be eligible until their first year ends. So, if you’re eying games from Endless Ocean: Luminous to Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition, you’re in luck. However, titles like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t be eligible for these benefits.
In other news, the Nintendo Switch Online Vouchers aren’t getting the upgrade treatment either. The support page now confirms these vouchers won’t be usable with Switch 2 games. Previously, subscribers could buy two vouchers for $99 in the US or equivalent in other currencies, allowing them to secure first-party releases. The silver lining? These vouchers will still be redeemable for future releases on the original Switch, including anticipated titles like Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
So there you have it, folks! Make sure you take advantage of these programs while they last, and prepare for some changes as Nintendo looks towards the future.
