Dino Patti, a well-known figure in the gaming industry, has made a strategic move by reacquiring Jumpship from Thunderful.
According to GI.biz, Patti, who gained fame at Playdead, intends to reinvigorate Jumpship, steering the studio towards a fresh path. Jumpship was co-founded by Patti and Chris Olsen back in 2017, and their first game, Somerville, hit the market in 2022.
In that same year, the studio came under the ownership of Thunderful, a European gaming company. Now, Patti has not only bought back Jumpship but also secured shares in Sad Owl Studios, known for developing Viewfinder.
While the financial details of these transactions have been kept under wraps, Patti shared some insights on his vision. “I can’t reveal everything yet,” he explained, “but I am convinced that the current scene of investment and publishing in gaming has become stagnant.”
He added that significant changes are needed to better cater to both game developers and players. “Jumpship has always been about challenging conventions, particularly in how we tell stories and evoke emotions through innovation in gaming,” Patti shared. “I aim to guide the company in a new direction while remaining true to its original spirit.”
Patti emphasized that this move goes beyond mere business strategy. “It’s about rekindling the passion and vision that Jumpship was built on and taking it further than ever before,” he concluded.
