The renowned handheld console producer Ayaneo has just pulled the curtain back on its newest flagship product, the Ayaneo 3. This sleek addition builds on the legacy of its predecessor, maintaining its familiar design and button configuration, but with a notably upgraded hardware package.
As detailed on the Ayaneo blog, enthusiasts can choose between two powerhouse processors for the Ayaneo 3: the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U or the more robust AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. It also boasts a stunning seven-inch screen, available in either a high-refresh LCD or an OLED HDR variant, ensuring a deeply immersive visual experience. To enhance usability, they’ve cleverly added two extra buttons on the back of the console, offering greater control flexibility.
Sadly, Ayaneo has kept mum on further specifics about the Ayaneo 3. We’re eagerly waiting for more tidbits about its RAM, storage capabilities, and pricing. If we consider the Ayaneo 2 as a baseline, it came with options for 16GB or 32GB of RAM and storage capacities ranging from 512GB to a whopping 2TB. It started at $1,099 and climbed to $1,549 for those snagging the limited-edition B.Duck model. Speculating from those figures, it’s reasonable to expect the Ayaneo 3 to offer similar choices, possibly at a steeper price.
In terms of innovation, the Ayaneo 3 is set to make waves as one of the first handheld devices featuring the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. While most current games don’t leverage the NPU in the HX 370, this processor’s additional cores, its Zen 5 architecture, and the AMD Radeon 890M integrated GPU offer a significant performance boost compared to the Ryzen 7 8840U. This makes it more powerful than many leading PC gaming handhelds, which often rely on the Ryzen Z1 Extreme.
However, the Ayaneo 3 isn’t launching into a market void. It’s stepping into an arena bustling with strong competitors. We’re keenly anticipating how it will rival the likes of the ROG Ally 2, MSI Claw 8 AI+, and Lenovo Legion Go Gen Two, which are expected to roll out either later this year or in early 2025. The real test will be how Ayaneo 3 sets itself apart and the kind of gaming experience it promises to its users.
