Bungie’s ‘Marathon’ Set for September Xbox Release, Closed Alpha Launching This Month

Bungie has finally given us a sneak peek into their much-anticipated extraction shooter, Marathon, offering us our first real glimpse at the gameplay. They’ve announced that the game is set to debut on the Xbox Series X and Series S on September 23, 2025.

In Marathon, players assume the role of a Runner—cybernetic mercenaries each with their own set of skills. You’ll form a team with up to two others to take on hostile AI and rival Runner groups. Along the way, you’ll gather weapons, implants, and gear, all of which you get to keep if you manage to make it through alive.

The game challenges players to dive into a zone in small teams with the primary goal of grabbing as much loot as possible before making a daring escape. You’ll face various challenges, including security forces and opposing teams, all needing a strategic approach. Legendary solo runs are possible too, where you can take on teams alone and leave with all the loot.
