In my hands, the G7 HE is a delight due to its Hall-Effect sticks—an advancement Xbox has yet to incorporate into its own controllers. These Hall-Effect sticks ensure longevity by eliminating stick drift issues. This, coupled with anti-friction rings, allows for smooth stick movements. Although I miss the vibrant ring design from the SE, the HE’s understated look matches well with its faceplate, maintaining excellent functionality.
The micro-switch buttons bring a new, precise dimension to the controller, replacing the less durable membrane buttons from the previous SE model. Back are the tactile microswitches, adding a satisfying click with every press. This change makes the G7 HE stand out, adding durability and precision to your gaming experience. Additionally, the new silicone grips improve comfort and grip, especially during those intense gaming moments I anticipate with releases like Monster Hunters Wilds.
GameSir G7 HE Controller Review: The Bad
GameSir’s habit of switching features out with each model is evident here. The G7 HE loses the option to lock the rear buttons—a handy feature to prevent accidental presses. This small yet notable change means the rear buttons might be easily triggered, which is a slight inconvenience if not in use.
Moreover, the absence of trigger stops might disappoint those focused on enhancing their FPS gameplay. Although not a major setback for the price, it’s something to weigh in your purchase decision.
Despite favoring the G7 HE over the SE, my rating reflects evolving expectations. It’s been two years since the SE and now, $50 for a wired controller feels like a stretch, especially when Xbox gamers are increasingly leaning towards wireless setups. On my Series S, it works great for close-range gaming. However, it doesn’t replace the convenience of wireless controllers when lounging on the couch.

If you’re on the hunt for a wireless Xbox controller with Hall Effect tech, the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro holds the top spot—even surpassing Xbox’s own Elite series. While cheaper alternatives like the PowerA Fusion Pro with Lumectra might catch your eye, at $150, it’s not my first recommendation.
PC gamers, however, can rejoice with more affordable wireless options like the GameSir Cyclone 2 Wireless. With advanced stick technology called TMR, akin to Hall Effect but even more precise with less battery use, this controller, accompanied by a magnetic charging stand, is a steal on sale.

The G7 HE triumphs with its improvements over the SE, yet in 2025, the market demands GameSir to venture into wireless Xbox solutions. Sure, third-party wireless options exist but at higher costs, mostly controlled by Microsoft’s licensing policies. GameSir has aced PC controllers; now it’s time for them to break new ground for Xbox, hopefully soon and affordably.
You might consider purchasing this if you’re after a cost-efficient Xbox controller that wards off stick drift thanks to its Hall-Effect technology. Its clicky buttons and comfortable grip make it irresistibly tactile. On the flip side, those needing trigger stops for FPS games or those who despise being tethered might want to delay checkout.
