Helldivers 2 has recently introduced a new Major Order, and whether you’re picking yourself up from the last mission’s defeat or logging into Steam after a long hiatus, this is one update you won’t want to overlook. Pay close attention to your new assignment, as it may pave the way for some intriguing developments.
The previous Major Order that revived the Democracy Space Station to fight the Illuminate has now shifted back to dealing with the bug menace. For those hardcore players still battling bugs, this will feel all too familiar.
Initially, this latest Major Order might not seem exceptional. Your goals are to extract 22 million common samples from Erata Prime, gather 15 million rare ones from Gacrux, and ensure Super Earth controls Fenrir III within four days. However, what really piques interest is the purpose behind all these efforts. You’ll be contributing to the research and development of technology to combat “The Gloom,” a mysterious spore cloud that’s spread through several Terminid-controlled areas. This spore cloud might serve a purpose beyond merely obstructing your ship’s visibility.
In a recent update shared on Twitter, the Helldivers team highlighted: “The Illuminate campaign of terror continues unrestricted.” According to Arrowhead’s full briefing, tests on Terminids using Gloom spores have shown that there’s a dramatic increase in Element 710 yields, potentially up to ten times the usual amount.
The briefing continues, “These findings could open up a vast, untapped reservoir of energy. Harnessing this could make faster-than-light travel a reality across sectors like trade and research, far beyond just military and colonization.”
This breakthrough might just add new resources for Super Earth, extending beyond what the Democracy Space Station offers. Alternately, there’s a chance it could backfire, leading to unintended consequences like powering up already formidable bugs or unleashing mutated test subjects from The Gloom experiments.
Only time will tell how this turns out, but knowing Helldivers 2, it’s likely we’ll experience a bit of both possibilities. So gear up and dive in; it’s bound to be an adventure!
